What should l bring to board my dog?
- Bring their vaccination records. Must be up to date on Rabies, DHLPPC & Bordetella. (Be sure you are not just bringing a Rabies certificate.) Your vet may call to confirm the dates of vaccinations.
- Bedding that smells like home - something that fits in a regular washer in case it gets dirty. I wouldn't bring your pet's best bed - he/she may get rowdy and decide to tear it up!
- Your pet's own food - a sudden change in diet can cause digestive upset & diarrhea. Special diets are welcome - food can be refrigerated, frozen and re-heated in the microwave.
- Any toys or treats that make them happy!
- Any medicines needed including insulin, have doses and schedules written down. Bring extra in case your return is delayed. It's also nice if you bring what you wrap pills in. There is no extra charge to give medicines.
- Have a well-fitted collar or harness on your pet.
Inside runs can encourage dogs to relieve themselves inside - it's best to keep the odor, bacteria and mess outside. Dogs are natural den animals and prefer a cozy place to snuggle - the smaller private areas provide that secure place. While inside they can't see the other dogs and that helps them to relax.
How do you stand all the barking?
Thank goodness they only get noisy and bark when someone comes or goes! The rest of the time is normally spent resting, sleeping, or looking out the window.
What if my dog won't go potty out on the concrete runs?
Most dogs will use the runs to potty, especially when they see and smell the other dogs using the runs to relieve themselves. But if a dog is so well housebroke that he thinks he shouldn't go "on the patio," then I make sure and walk him on the grass as needed.
Does my dog get time in the run if he's in an upper spot and how does he get down?
The dogs take their turns in the runs or they get walked. I lift them down.
When you are closed on holidays & Sundays, how are the dogs cared for?
The routine of care stays the same but the office is closed -no one else comes in or out.
Why don't you have the kind of dog-doors that the dogs open themselves?
I open & close the doors to let the dogs in & out and monitor their outdoor activities so no dogs stay out too long and get too hot or too cold. I also have to close the bottom dogs in when the top go out for their turn in the runs. I've also seen too many timid or small dogs be unable to open the self-opening doors. All dogs are brought in at night so any barking won't disturb the neighbors.
